About Jacob Maarse Florists

Jacob Maarse is a name that we see on the building of the old Cadilac dealership the Dutch man behind the name is often called “The Rose King” and his florist business is described as the “Tiffany of the stem world” If florists were royalty, Jacob Maarse would be among their pantheon. Born in 1928 into a family of flower growers in Alsmeer, Holland, Maarse moved to Pasadena in 1959s, Opening Jacob Maarse Florist on Green Street in 1966. He supplied his flower shop with roses and other flowers grown on thousands of bushes in his three-acre Sierra Madre home garden. The garden had begun as a birthday present for his wife, Clara. Slowly the roses were cut fresh in the morning and delivered to the flower shop. Word soon spread that Maarse’s homegrown flowers smelled better, lasted longer, and were more gorgeous than any other flower. Through the decades, countless weddings, birthdays, and corporate events followed, including arrangements for film production, The White House, the Hollywood Bowl and countless celebrities. The father- and – son team Jacob and Hank Maarse were immersed in flowers from their family’s legacy to co-ownership of the floral shop in Pasadena. Ca.
